- Some universities and autonomous colleges: CGPA × 10, or their own table.
If in doubt, check the back of your marksheet or your university’s ordinance. Need to work out the CGPA first? Use the GPA, SGPA and CGPA calculator.
FAQ
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
It depends on who issued your CGPA. CBSE uses Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. Many engineering universities use Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Some universities simply multiply by 10. Always use the formula printed on your marksheet or in your university’s rules.
Why does CBSE multiply by 9.5?
When CBSE introduced grading in 2010, it worked out that students in the top grade band (91–100 marks) averaged about 95 marks, and divided 95 by the top grade point of 10. The result, 9.5, became the indicative conversion factor (CBSE Circular No. 24, 2010).
What is 8 CGPA in percentage?
With the CBSE formula, 8 × 9.5 = 76%. With (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 it is 72.5%. With CGPA × 10 it is 80%.
How do I convert percentage to CGPA?
Reverse the formula. For CBSE, CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5. For (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10 + 0.75. Use the “Percentage → CGPA” mode above.
Which formula should I use for job or university applications?
Use the formula your university states officially, and mention it next to the percentage (for example “76% (CGPA × 9.5)”). If your university gives a conversion certificate, quote that number.
